TwinArc’s expertise has been applied in industry, research and higher education institutions across North America. Following is a sampling of clients and projects.
Control Software for Experiments on Aspect Angle
and Aspect Rate
TwinArc was selected by Defense Research and Development Canada (DRDC Toronto) to develop experimental control software to run six experiments. The experiments use three-dimensional graphics intensively: they include the continuous motion of rendered models in near real-time presentation. The purpose of these experiments is to assess the perception of distant aircraft in new high-resolution displays. Some of the experiments will establish baseline data on normal observers with standard CRT devices, while other studies will use trained observers to obtain data on a high-resolution display device.
Multi-Channel Data Acquisition Components for Sandman
Sleep Analysis System
Mallinkrodt (Tyco) engaged our expertise to provide hardware interface modules for its sleep analysis system. These include analog to digital conversion components, serial communications, physiological amplifiers and transducers. An important feature of these interface projects was a design facilitating support of additional hardware and providing a uniform interface to the high-level program.
Suite for Retinal Image Capture and Analysis
Designed as a research tool, the software performs capture and processing of retinal images. Multiple users are able to create individualized environments in which to conduct their research. Environments allow the definition of projects with associated subject lists, macros for automated capture and image transformation and the construction of protocols which combine macros, capture and processing actions to automate the execution of data collection and processing.
Corneal Laser Surgery Planner:
A Spreadsheet-Oriented Visualization Tool for Multi-Step Laser Surgery
University of Ottawa Eye Institute contracted TwinArc, Inc. to design and implement a software package to assist eye surgeons in multi-stage planning of laser eye surgery. The software allows surgeons to create multiple treatment alternatives and comparison of potential outcomes to ensure the most appropriate treatment is administered. Tools available to these surgeons include Visual Acuity (Two-Point Process), Image Quality, Point Spread Function, Wavefront Aberration, Axial/Tangential Curvature and 3D visualizations.
Visualization of Corneal and Ocular Aberrations
in Human Eyes
Under contract with the University of Ottawa Eye Institute , we developed a wavefront analysis program to explore ocular wavefront aberrations. Multiple maps of corneal, internal and total-eye wavefronts enable localization of these aberrations. This software is currently under evaluation for integration in the Zeiss Humphrey Systems family of products.
Data Acquisition, Control and Monitoring Module
for Multi-Channel Physiological Signals
Tightly integrated into Melville's (Mallinkrodt) sleep collection and analysis software, this plug-in enables physicians to remotely monitor and control clinical recordings by modem connection in real-time between local and remote computers. It is also used for remote trouble-shooting by Melville's support center.
Divided Attention Task:
Real-Time Stroke Assessment Software
Developed a computerized test to measure attention deficiencies in stroke patients for The Royal Ottawa Rehabilitation Center. The software enables physicians to assess patients’ ability to deal with two independent but simultaneous tasks by using reaction-time measures to graphical stimuli accompanied by a manual tracking task.
Automated Cognitive Performance Test Administration
with Self-Evaluation Measures
Developed a software tool for Harvard University enabling behavioral scientists to administer scheduled test batteries for the acquisition of cognitive performance and self-evaluation measures. The software developed also assists in ensuring compliance to the required scientific protocol. Collected data were made accessible to commercially available statistics packages.
